Writing for humans, not users: Using a co-design approach

Wednesday 20 March 2024, 20:25 UTC, Stage 1

Learn how content designers can use co-design to steer content approach from a user-centred one to a human-centred one.

As content designers, we need to see our users not as users but as human beings. However, some of the methodologies used in a traditional design process, as exemplified by user personas, user needs, pain points, etc., do not equip us as content designers with the tools to achieve this.

In this talk, we’ll explore how co-design steers us from the traditional user-centred approach to a human-centred one. This allows content designers to account for the holistic needs of the user rather than their specific needs. Chika will share lessons learned from a recent project on how co-design can transform our work as content designers.

Session takeaway

Experience is more important to users than functionality. This is what motivates users to engage deeply with products. As content designers, we should focus on how to use words to create a positive experience for users. This starts by seeing them as humans/people rather than 'users'

In this session, You'll learn how co-design is different from the traditional design approach, and how it humanises the content design process. Armed with this insight, you'll be able to use words to create experiences that enhance the functionality of our products.
